PostSubject: Hadvens journal.   Hadvens journal. I_icon_minitimeThu Oct 20, 2011 11:32 pm

As you walk through the Mage quarter of Undercity, you notice an open book on a table, a glass of some red liquid which looks like wine and a few candles next to it, illuminating the darkness. A quick look into the first page of the book reveals that this is Hadven Calders journal. You see him standing further down the hall, busy with a discussion with some fellow mages. You may take a peek into the book and try read it if you want, but if Hadven catches you reading his journal, you will need a Val`kyr. The writing on the first page seems childish but correct. There are drawings of a man and a woman in the book. The man is tall and strong, a worker man apparently and the woman is young and beatiful. Maybe his parents?

First entry. Date unknown. Place: Dalaran.

"This is my journal, given to me on my first day in Dalaran, where I will spend time learning magic. Instead of writing in it on a daily basis, I have decided to write a summary of each year in it, so it will not overflow with unnecessary details. I think it will be better like this."

"So, to start with the beginning. I came to Dalaran just after my 14th birthday. Mother and father escorted me here themselves, they wanted to say goodbye to me since I won`t see them for at least a year. I worry for them, it will be hard for them to run the farm without me there to help them. But if I become a great Magi, I can get a good job and earn money to help them. Hiring local people and maybe buy them more land. And they can get a bigger house. Maybe like the big houses I saw in Lordaeron."

"Since my home is so far away from Dalaran, I was given a place to stay with a family in Dalaran. The father of the house is a Quel`dorei named Seifer Salonar. He is married to a Quel`dorei named Alona. He will be a teacher to me in school aswell. The first moment I stepped into their house, I was amazed. Brooms cleaning the house on their own. Plants and other things of decoration levitating on their own. This was all the doings of Seifer. He wanted to show me what I can do in a year, he said. I can`t wait! Maybe I can make the farming tools at home work on their own while mother and father rest? We will see. Oh, they also have a daughter. She is named Enelia. Boy, she is beatiful. She seems to be my age, but Seifer told me she is far older than she looks. Seifer said that Quel`dorei age in a different way than humans. I don`t understand, but one day, I will."

"The first days at school was not what I expected. Instead of starting studies immediatly, we were given a tour of the city. We were warned of areas off limits to us students. A strange place called the Underbelly. I think it is the sewers of Dalaran, but people walk in and out of the tunnel leading to it so it can`t be a sewer then. We also visited the great library, an enormous collection of books on every conceivable subject ever thought of. I think I will be spending lots of time here. There is enough knowledge here to satisfy me for decades. Maybe I will go down there one day and see what I can find. We also visited a store that held items we needed for studies as we progress. All manner of strange items. Wood, strange shimmering dust, glowing orbs. I don`t understand it yet but I will."

"All schools have their bullies. The ones that pick a fight with you just for fun. I have met the bully of my class. A boy named Taros. He is the son of a noble in Stormwind. He walks around like he is a king and demands that everybody address him as "Sir". I already dislike him very much. The teachers allow him to to carry on like that because his father donated a huge amount of artifacts to Dalaran. I don`t know what artifacts but they must be important. Several students have complained but they seem to turn a blind eye. I wish someone punched that noble brat."

"I have no idea how I did it! It just happened! Taros tried to pick a fight me today. As a future noble, he ordered me, the son of a "lowly peasant", as he called it, to clean his boots. I refused and he started beating me. I tried to defend myself but he kicked me to the ground. I did not know what happened but suddenly a heavy water pot flew through the air and smashed into Taros, sending him flying into the cobblestones. He was unconscious when the teachers came there. They carried him away to the hospital and Seifer took me home to see to my wounds. Just a few scratches but he insisted. When we got home, Seifer asked me how I had learned it. I did not know what he meant so I asked. He said he saw the whole thing and said he felt me use magic to move the waterpot and hurl it at Taros. I said I did not do it, but that I wished that I could strike back at him. Seifer then smiled to me and said that I had a gift for using magic that advanced at such a young age. It is called Psychokinesis. It is the ability to move objects with my mind. I did not know it existed even and yet I could use it. However, it can be dangerous to use it without control so Seifer offered to train me to use it properly. He also informed the teachers council about my ability. They now keep an eye on me so that I don`t use this ability when I should not. Taros woke up one week later with some broken bones. He keeps his distance to me now, but he have gone after other students. I wish he could just disappear."

"It`s been almost 9 months since I came to Dalaran and my studies progress rapidly. We have spent this year learning about basic magic. How magic works, its influence on daily life, good ways to use magic and how to recognize different types of magic. It is all interesting to me but some of my fellow students do not agree. Some of them quit because they could not understand magic at all. They had a hard time understanding it and thus they fell behind. I, on the other hand, seem to be able to grasp it with only minor problems. I don`t know why, maybe my curiosity and need to learn more drives me forward or something else drives me. It does not matter. I am happy to learn more. In one month, we have a vacation, so then it is back to Lordaeron for me. To visit my parents. I bet the apple trees are in full bloom now. It`s almost as I can smell the apple trees and my mothers food. Not that the food in Dalaran is bad or anything. Sometimes I just miss my mothers food. I will be sure to visit my uncle and aunt in the city when I get home. Oh, and my family in Brill aswell. I got much to do when I get home.
When my second year starts, I will continue to live at Seifer and Alonas house, they are always happy to let students live at their house, they got plenty of space. I must remember to buy them a present as a "Thank you". But I have no idea what to buy them. Hmm, I must give this some thinking."

Oh, seems as Hadven is on his way back. Better close the book and make a break for it.

Seems Hadven is out collecting some herbs for his alchemy studies. He forgot his journal in the lab in brill and you can take a sneak peek.

Second entry. Date unknown. Place: Dalaran.

"Now I am back in Dalaran again. The time spent home with my parents was good. I got to rest a bit and I also helped my parents with some of the harvest. The apple orchard provided plenty of apples and I helped my father sell them on the market in Lordaeron city. I also had a chance to visit my uncle in the city. His job as an army man have paid off. He was promoted to sergeant recently and was given command over a small unit of men. They primarily patrol the city to prevent unrest and keepers of the peace."

"Back in Dalaran. Seifer and Alona was happy to see me again. They got 2 more students to live in their house for this year. A female Gnome named Hali Steamspring and a female Sin`dorei named Shanoa. I can`t remember her last name, it is quite long. We began our studies a couple of days after arriving in Dalaran. This year we will learn more about basic magic and focused magic. I have not been feeling well recently and it hampers my studies".

"We got a new teacher today, he will teach us about shields and wards and other ways to empower ourselves. There are so many spells to protect ourselves. Shields of frost that creates a barrier around us to prevent any harm come to us. It can even be used to cool us down on very hot days. And fire shields that can harm those who wish harm upon us. With some more training it can be used to warm ourselves up on very cold days. Mana shields that drain our magic instead of allowing harm come to us. It is amazing".

"Talos is at it again. That snotty little brat. I hate him. He stays away from me after what happened to him last time, now he goes after the new students. Picking on them at every possible occation. And still the teachers can`t do anything to him. I asked Seifer why they don`t do anything. He said that the relics Talos father gave to Dalaran is of the utmost importance to the mages here. Relics that should not exist but was discovered far to the south somewhere. The relics is still owned by Talos father but he allows the mages here to study them and keep them here for safekeeping."

"A student died today. He was a senior student and tried to cast a spell that required intense concentration. He lost his concentration and was incinerated by vast amounts of arcane magic energy. The headmaster gave us a week off so we can decide if we want to continue after this event. I was unsure at first but if I am careful, nothing bad can happen. Study hard, be careful, take no chances and nothing can go wrong. I asked Seifer about the spell the student tried to cast and he told me it was a spell that is named Arcane blast. It requires a student to channel arcane magic into the palm of your hand and then release the energy at the presice right moment to allow it to strike at an enemy. Apparently, the senior student failed with the release of the energy. He believed that more concentration would result in a stronger blast, he was wrong. The arcane magic build up turned on him and burned him from within. May he rest in peace".

"I was training today. Training on my shields and how to keep them up for as long as possible. I became a bit concerned when I noticed a man with a long cloak and hood covering his face was watching me. I could not see any facial features but he seemed to be very thin. I could barely see his eyes and what I saw frightened me. His eyes was milky white. There was no glimmer in his eyes. Nothing that seemed to signify there was life in his eyes. I became so afraid that I ran back home to Seifer and Alona. Seifer looked at me like I had seen a ghost. I told him what I saw and he told me to calm down, then he explained who the man was. He is named Meryl Winterstorm and comes to Dalaran once in a while to look for students who he will offer an apprenticeship to. And he is very old. When I asked Seifer how old, he said more than 2000 years old. I can`t believe him. Nobody can be that old. I just nodded to seifer but I don`t believe him".

"The next vacation comes in a few weeks. I am looking forward to return home to Lordaeron. I have learned so much this year and I hope I can help my parents with some new spells. Harvest is soon, they will need all the help they can get. I found a nice gift to Seifer and Alona, a crystal figure carved by a fellow student of mine, it resembles two Quel`dorei, a male and female holding hands, it looks beautiful as the sunlight shines through it, it gives off a bluish light that resemble pure magic energy. I think they will like it. When the next semester starts, we students will be able to take jobs while we study magic. I have been promised a job as a librarian in one of the libraries in Dalaran. I think it will suit me good and then I have access to almost every book in here. I will be very busy next year".

Hadvens journal is placed on a table in the laboratory in Brill. You might have some time to open it and read a chapter before he returns.

Third entry. Date unknown. Place: Dalaran.

"The third year in Dalaran may be more important for me than the two previous years. I now work as a librarian while I study. We now have more freedom in our studies and can now have a job while we study. I met with the head librarian today. An old wizard that have been in Dalaran all his life. He told me he was born and raised here and have been the head librarian for 30 years, he also said he have been a teacher too. He gave me a tour of the library and told me of the rules here. There is a closed section of the library that no one is allowed to go to, unless they have a special permission. I asked why no one was allowed there, his answer was "some secrets are best left forgotten and should not be seen by anyone". I wonder what he meant by that.

"Hali and Shanoa, my two roommates does not get along very well. Hali always talks about some invention she is working on and Shanoa can`t seem to focus on her studies because of that. They argued today and almost ended up fighting. Luckily, Seifer stepped in and managed to calm them down. Now that i think about it, Shanoa have been quite pale now for a few weeks. When I asked her if she was ok, she dismissed it as a flu. I don`t believe her, she is hiding something."

"I was working late in the library tonight, I was sorting through some books and placing them back at the correct shelves when I was tempted to investigate the off-limits section of the library. I made sure I was alone when I walked there. This part of the library seems to be very old and looks like no one have been in this part for decades. Old dusty tomes, brittle scrolls and cobweb covered desks. I wonder why they have deemed this area off-limits. I decided to find out and took a small book with me to see what it contained. Back at the librarians desk, I opened the book and I was shocked. The letters in this book looks like no one I have ever seen, and as I stared at the letters, they seem to crawl over the pages like spiders. I got a headache just from looking at it and my eyes started to feel like they was covered in sand, it was painful. I closed the book, put it back and left the library."

"Today we learned about potions to boost us while we cast spells. There are many different potions can aid us in battle. Potions that increase the heat in our fire spells and some that lowers the temperature in our frost spells. Even some potions that hydrate us while we cast spells so we do not have to drink so often. And some potions that releases the bonds that control us so we can increase the damage of our spells. These potions would be interesting to make, however, they require much training to learn how to make. I don`t know if this is the type of things I want to learn more about, I need to think about this some more."

"Vacation is soon. I should look forward to it but my thoughts dwell on the closed off section of the library. I want to go back there and look in the books some more but I must know what is inside the books before I look. There must be an index somewhere in the library. I must find it. I shall think about this while I have my vacation from the studies. On the other hand, my skills with magic have increased enough that I can help my parents with the harvest this year. I shall try and see if I can manipulate tools while I am home. If I can do this, I would make my parents proud. And maybe, just maybe, I will be called to aid other people with something. Maybe I can take a small fee for my services, some extra money for my parents is always good to have."
