Sorry, I created the account before applying. made it out of habit before I read anything on the actual site. Embarassed

I wasn't sure whether to put this at the beginning or end, so I put it here so you can see it before you read:
Application: Theodore Vulricht Gerian10

PLAYER INFORMATION
How long (approximately) have you been playing World of Warcraft?

I have been playing since around the release of Burning Crusade, couldn't say whether it was before or after. My sense of time is a little hazy on anything further back than this morning, so I can't really be specific on months and dates.

How confident would you say you are with the English language?

Pretty darn confident, I've gotten consistently high scores on examinations and such throughout my school life, so I'd say yes, I can use the English language, with the odd typo maybe, but that is entirely accidental and nothing to do with my understanding of the language.

What experience do you have with roleplaying in the past?

I have been part of forum-based roleplaying, as well as WoW roleplay. I've had fairly frequent roleplaying in my life for around four years now, being involved in some kind of RP every day usually.

What experience do you have within the World of Warcraft?

Well, I've run a bunch of instances in the past, and know how to stealth all the way to Halcyon in UBRS. I must confess that I really don't like raiding or even instancing at all and avoid it unless there is some particularly nice gear I want. Thus my PvE experience is pretty minimal.

As for PvP, never done arena, and only did BGs for RP gear before. I don't really enjoy PvP in WoW and would much rather go play a shooter if I want to fight other players.

Now, RP is a whole different story, I have roleplayed on the Sha'tar, Alliance and Horde-side since I first got into the game about four years ago, I've played as almost every race at some point, and know a fair bit about the lore, picked up through quests and browsing WoWWiki. I've been a part of various less well-known RP guilds on the Sha'tar, including the <Scarlet Flame> (I think that was it, anyway, a reformed Scarlets guild). Most recently, I started up the guild <Stone Axe Clan>, which has been running smoothly since its creation.

If you were to join the guild, what would you bring to the strong OOC community the guild shares?

I can't claim to be witty or funny, and my opinion of myself isn't high enough to call myself a veteran, though I will help others wherever I am able, such as with finding RP gear, which I have become fairly adept at, I think. And definitely no Chuck Norris jokes, hate 'em.

If you were to join the guild, how often would you be able to play?

I'll be on at least once a week for a few hours. Obviously running my own guild eats up some of my time, as does RL, but what I have to spare will likely be spent on Vulricht, or playing Resident Evil games.

If you were to join the guild what would be your priority when online?

Either levelling Vul, since he's a pathetic level 21 right now, or RPing, with RP being the higher priority, since it's much more fun. Definitely not raiding ICC25, since I detest raiding.

Why do you wish to join the guild?

Because The Spine provides an immersive environment for Forsaken RP, and though I spend much of my time in the sun-baked Barrens shouting about honour and sharpening axes, it's nice to be able to get involved in a wholly different kind of RP, to keep both experiences from getting stale.

CHARACTER INFORMATION

-Undead Human

Of the three Forsaken factions the guild represents: The Royal Apothecary Society, The Deathguard and The Deathstalkers. Which do you feel your character would fit in with best and why?

This is a tough question for me. Vulricht has experience as an apothecary, is a somewhat skilled alchemist and herbalist. However, he left the Royal Apothecary Society to learn the dark arts of Warlock magic and fight for the Forsaken, rather than sit in the Apothecarium experimenting. He has the skills of an apothecary, but the attitude of a soldier. Without advice from others, I'd have to say he join the Deathguard and fight on the front lines.

How does your character feel about the place of the Forsaken in the Horde? And how does he/she react to other races within the Horde?

Vulricht sees the Horde as useful allies, and believes that the Forsaken have a fair position in the Horde given the incident at the Wrathgate. Vulricht sees that each race has its own innate talents and understands how they can work together with the Forsaken to be a more powerful combined force. On an individual basis, Vulricht treats most races as he would treat a Forsaken he didn't yet know - with caution, but no prejudice.

How does your character feel about the Wrathgate incident?

Vulricht views it as unfortunate, because it divided the Forsaken, cost many Forsaken lives, and left the Undercity under guard and intense scrutiny. However, he was impressed by the power of the plague, and secretly wishes that it would be sanctioned for use against the Horde's foes at the very least.

Family:

Vulricht was an orphan, and grew up in an orphanage in Capital City. His only family were the staff of the orphanage and the other orphans. Only one orphan stayed long enough at the orphanage (and was compatible enough with Theodore) to become a long-term friend, Bawdric Holt. the two remained friends throughout adulthood, until the Scourge conquered Capital City. The last Vulricht saw of Bawdric was him wearing the livery of the Scarlet Crusade several years ago.

Character History:

Vulricht's earliest memories are of living in the orphanage. He was viewed as a 'freak' by his fellow orphans, due to his speech impediment, which he was unable to overcome until his Undeath. Due to a sensitive personality and being extremely pacifistic, he was unwilling to lash out at his tormentors. He was a thin, pale, black-haired boy who hid from any parents looking to adopt. Because, even though he often hated the children of the orphanage; he was secretly terrified of being taken to an unfamiliar place, never to return to what had always been his home. Upon reaching adulthood, Vulricht took a job as a baker's assitant, making what living he could, as so many did at the time. He considered himself lucky to survive the Second War without ever having so much as seen an orc. He had, however, aided in brewing medicines for wounded soldiers of the war, and gained a basic understanding of herbalism and alchemy. His life then continued as unremarkably as ever until the Scourge's conquest of Lordaeron.

Vulricht fell quickly, hiding in his tiny home at the edge of the city. A pair of ghouls entered the house and slew him with ease. He was raised as a zombie, roaming the streets for the next few months. Then suddenly, a crack appeared in the prison around his conscious mind. No longer was he a slave to the Lich King's will, he was free. Not just of the Lich King, however, but of his own humanity. Gone were the weaknesses of his former body, he felt no pain, no remorse, and no pity. He was free to act as he had always wished he could. He joined the Forsaken, and was quick to volunteer for the newly-formed Royal Apothecary Society, where his skills in alchemy and herbalism were expanded greatly. Vulricht had an affinity for alchemy, and particularly enjoyed brewing poisons of various types for use in battle.

But it was a desire to see these agonising brews used upon the enemy that lead Vulricht to ultimately leave the Society, to travel the Forsakens' lands, as a warlock. He discovered he had a solid affinity for magic, and so summoning demons and casting spells were not too difficult for him to learn. He combined the diabolical powers of the warlock with his own joy at inflicting pain and decay upon the foe, specialising in creating magical diseases that would leave the enemy writhing in agony.
To this day, he continues to travel and lend his cruel talents to those who need them.

Why does your character want to join the guild?

Vulricht has noticed an increasing hostility towards Forsaken from the Horde races, and seeks the security of a Forsaken community which he can ally himself with, for protection, as well as the opportunity to learn from other members of The Spine, and aid them in their battles with his own brand of plague-magic.

What skill set could your character bring to the guild?

Vulricht is an alchemist, able to harvest his own materials for the most part, and also learning about combining the arts of plague-making and spellcasting. Vulricht has a fascination for anything that eats away at an enemy, be it disease, poison, or black magic, and he is willing to combine them in different ways to achieve the desired effect of killing the enemy in a prolonged and painful way. Vulricht also has some skill in personal-enhancement chemicals, such as strength boosting concoctions, but this is a minor talent that he does not particularly enjoy using.

How does your character respond to authority?

Vulricht will follow people who he can see are clearly above him in the chain of command - or who prove themselves to be good leaders - unless certain conditions are met. For example, if his life is needlessly put at risk, he may consider desertion or insubordination.

TEST OF ABILITY

v) Grand Apothecary Putress should be considered a traitor to the cause.

This statement has raised a question in my mind. What cause do you mean? If you mean the Dark Lady's cause, then yes, he was clearly a traitor, as his followers battled Sylvanas and drove her out of the Undercity. HOWEVER, if you mean the cause of the Forsaken as a race, then the issue might not be so clear-cut.

Yes, Putress and Varimathras orchestrated the Wrathgate attack, killing hundreds of warriors, both Horde and Alliance. Yes, they attempted to stage a coup in the Undercity which failed the moment Sylvanas escaped. Yes, they attacked the Horde forces who approached the city.

But from the things Putress says, it seems that he acts on behalf of the Forsaken. It may well be the case that Putress simply felt loyalty to his race rather than his Queen. Perhaps he believed that it was time for the Forsaken to break from the Horde, and decided to act on that. It could be that he believed that the Banshee Queen was not a good leader for his people, and that she needed to be removed.

The simple fact is, that too little is understood of the nature of Putress' alliance with Varimathras to do anything more than speculate as to Putress' motives, or what cause he was truly acting in the interests of. It could be that Putress wanted power for himself, and Varimathras offered him rule of the Undercity if he aided Varimathras in his plan. It could be that Putress sought to liberate the Undercity from Sylvanas' rule, and place the blame for the attack on her. Perhaps that was his plan, and it was foiled when Sylvanas escaped, perhaps he had intended to present the Horde leaders with Sylvanas' corpse.

It may seem that, at face value, Putress was a traitor to 'the cause'; but when analysing the topic in more depth, we can see that that depends upon a number of things, particularly what motivated Putress, and the nature of his alliance with Varimathras. Unless Blizzard come back to the Wrathgate incident in future, we will not see any solid information on why Putress did what he did, or how he ended up working for Varimathras. All we know is what he did, not why. And I think that the reasoning behind the actions is the real vital question that needs to be answered before anyone can hope to properly judge Putress a traitor or otherwise.
