Where does your character consider their 'home' to be?

Now, I DO NOT MEAN 'Andorhal' or 'Gilneas' or any vague 'region' where they lived in life (although if you want to note down what I'll call their 'spiritual home', feel free to do so), I'm more intrigued by where we'd all plant a house to use -right now- for our characters if we could.

To be honest, the Forsaken don't seem to be very big on residential areas or even comfy communal halls, so I'd be interested to hear if some of you play characters who simply don't consider anywhere to be 'home'.

Furthermore, the question is a curious one because it depends very much on the nature of your character:
- Do they need to sleep/rest to survive, or are they largely devoid of such necessities: this will surely influence whether they actually have a residence or not.
- Do they regard the idea of a 'living space' with contempt, considering it a sign of weak 'human' or 'mortal' materialism which the Forsaken have no need for..?
- Or, is it the total opposite, do they try to live in the same buildings/areas which they once called home when living... In an attempt to reclaim something of themselves?

Do tell!

And I'll begin:
Viatrix Verranos was - and to some degres still is - a slave of gluttony, so she's been loathe to abandon any sort of materialism in undeath (she still eats and drinks even though her taste is incredibly dull; the food just sits in her belly and rots).

So, she currently has three 'residences' which she might call home at various times:
1. She has a large, ruined appartment in the Ruins of Lordaeron which she's decked out with the finest furniture she could steal from other large, ruined buildings in the Ruins.

In the aftermath of the Forsaken freeing themselves from the Scourge, Viatrix was a huge contractor of 'acquisition' - or, in far less euphemistic terms, she paid vast ammounts of money for lavish items (usually art, furniture, food or clothing) which had been 'acquired' by daring plunderers who broke into ruins and took anything of value. While this 'black market' in relics from before-the-Scourge was a common one, Viatrix invested more in it than almost anyone else and for the first few months of her newfound 'freedome' she devoted herself to this shady trading.

As a point of interest, it was using this aquired wealth that she bribed her way to the upper echelons of the Forsaken hierachy. Nobles who still served Lordaeron, and thus the Queen, in death were very eager to find their mysteriously missing art works or treasures, which had recently vanished. Viatrix created a simple system: she paid cut-throats to steal these treasures, these relics of the past, in the first place, she then approached the nobles and offered to 'retrieve' the pieces, on their behalf, at an inflated cost. Thus she earned their gratitude and gradually she worked her way in to the ranks of the Forsaken command.

One item in particular afforded her a very high position. She encountered a deceased noble going by the name 'Darsolenew Duskmantle' who was desparate to retrieve a certain Scythe which he claimed he had snatched from the corpse of an Orc Warlock on the field of battle. Sure enough she found the glowing weapon amongst her pile of plunder, having been given it after her underlings ransacked the appartments of the Gilnean embassy in Lordaeron. She returned the Scythe to Duskmantle, and the fearsome apothecary was so grateful he immediately recommended her for a place in the Royal Court.

The most beautiful items she kept for herself. And these she still keeps in this appartment, which is more of a reliquary than an actual living space, the largest room is now a mere corridor, because various relics of the past are piled high on either side, blocking the dim light from the windows.

This appartment is the one used most commonly be her, when she is on official business in Tirisfal or the Undercity (she can hardly stand the dim and confined setting of the subterranean crypt which is now their capital).

2. She has a room in the building that was temporarily the Forsaken Embassy in Silvermoon which she retreats to quite often when desperate to get away from the toils of work in Lordaeron. She worked for sometime as a bureaucrat in this very embassy, when the Horde first made contact with the Sin'dorei and she eventually became the deputy of the High Delegate who was sent to oversee the transition of supplies and troops to Tranquilien.

The room is a small one, far smaller than her Lordaeron home, but it actually has more space, since it is not cluttered with old relics. It looks out over Murder Row and she often spends the evenings sitting on the balcony, observing the quiet passing of travellers below.

The Embassy is no longer in use, since the construction of the Orb made permanent residence in the High Kingdom completely unnecessary, but Viatrix pays a small rent to the Spire to keep her dormitory, since the city of Silvermoon is very suited to a lady of leisure.

3. Finally, she very occasionally stays in the Underbelly of Dalaran when she returns to her birth-place for research or socialising. She used to stay above ground, but she found it almost impossible to look upon the glittering spires of the upper city every night and then return to Tirisfal. Furthermore, the prices of the properties above ground rocketed once adventurers moved into Northrend, so she could no longer afford to stay in her study regularly. She now keeps a small bed with a study in one of the hovels to be found in the sewer system.

I WROTE FAR MORE THAN I INTENDED TO! PLEASE DON'T FEEL YOU HAVE TO GO INTO THE SAME SORT OF DETAIL! But I am just curious, where do your little people 'live'?! Very Happy

Anthraxius has 2 homes.

1. Anthraxius has claimed a small tower within the ruins of Lordaeron as his home, the inside is mostly empty apart from a bedroll, a small forge, an anvil and a small chest containing various items of sentimental value, some trophies of his victories as one of the Forsaken and some from his mortal life. He has recently acquired a desk since his rise to the position of High Executor, on it are various maps of Azeroth and a book in which he makes notes about each Deathguards strengths and weaknesses and how best to put them to use in battle.

2. Anthraxius' second residence is an above ground room in Dalaran, contrary to his appearance, Anthraxius has amassed a great deal of personal wealth from his work as a Blacksmith, having little to spend it all on otherwise, he keeps this room available for trips to Northrend and on occaison for the odd relaxing getaway, though since his rise to the position of High Executor he has had little chance for the latter.

I do love the idea that Viatrix and Anthraxius could be neighbours! Or maybe Viatrix employed someone to trash the very tower he now occupies, 'back in the day'. \o/

Chlo has... Well, lets see.

I have to consider the fact, that she goes into hibernation from time to time, to restore mana and balance. At this point she -is- vunerable, therefore needs a place where she will be safe.
That place would be one of the abandoned manors in Arathi Highlands ( would be foolish to consider it's only one there). She filled it up with everything expensive, of best quality - furniture, paintings, carpets, every minor detail. How she got it? Mind controlled out from different sources, of course. Not that she would waste money on it, when she can buy alchemy equipment instead, duh. She has a 'servant' there, it's an elven woman, one of the survived Sunfury elves, that Nethak killed on the Coldhearth manor fields for Ashen rose. Now, presence of the living could be considered a threat, but since elf wears glyphed bracers, that eradicate aggressive thoughts, Chlo is calm about her.

Then, there's that small house at Coldhearth - she doesn't really consider it home, but she made sure it's comfortable for any living visitors - which she had, when she was restoring the field. She keeps all the collected herbs there, as a stock, and the building itself has a hidden portal to the manor in Arathi. So it's sort of a linking place between duty and her own time.

Now there're also Sludge Fields and Brill labs - that's where she feels most comfortable, most easy, like a fish in the water. She actually calls Brill her home, if anyone asks.

As for part in life, at first she lived in Stratholme with her parents, on the Festival Lane, not far from the Chapel (where her mother and sister were priests). Very modest, but spacy place (considering her mother inherited quite a fortune from her father, including house, but spent it on the Chapel). The house is now of course ruined and you wouldn't want to walk around the stairs for the sake of your own safety, but she sometimes appears around, mostly looking for her own hidden legacy - journals, she wrote in life, items she was hiding from people, and so on.
Then there was a small room in Stormwind, which now is rebuilt into tailoring shop, and nothing of it remains the same.

*scratches head* Overall, Chlo is very defensive of her personal zone - everything that belongs in this zone, no matter if it's in the labs or her house, is always locked in heavy elementium chests with inscribed padlocks.

It's a bit different for Marw.
While you'd think that a former landowner would want a place to call home, he doesn't.

He would live in his former estate, the manor south of Pyrewood, but that burned down and the Alliance built a base camp right on top of the ruins.
You can imagine how happy he was when he was informed of this...

Now, he considers himself a part of the Forsaken organism, a nerve in a complex body of many uses.
He doesn't require sleep, nutrition or even water, because he isn't a very physical undead, nor is he often in rot-inducing environments. For that reason, he simply stays where he is supposed to be, which is often in Brill, specifically in the lab. That's not to say he live there, but that's the closest you would get to a home for him.

Loving the responses so far. Vrae, I would think that Marw's take on where 'home' is probably shared by the majority of the Forksaken - I would say that those who actually have a private living space are rare, because - as I suggested - it's just too 'human' to be admired by many (why waste time sleeping when you could be taking revenge on the enemies of the Dark Lady!)

Karl spends as little time in the ruins of Lordaeron as possible, partially because of duty, partially because a treacherous walk down memory lane may lead him to the ruins of his Family Estate. He's plagued enough by memory as it is, without walking through the house where he had so many arguments. The von Heldenhammer buildings stand empty, in any case, treasures ransacked by the Scourge ( and probably Via by the sounds of it Razz) possibly somewhere in there is a discarded seal of nobility, cast down after the last argument. In any case, Karl does not go there, and has not since his late teens ( he was 35 when he died).
If he can be said to have a home, it is threefold. He has a soldier's bunk off the side in the Military Quarter of Undercity, along with many other Deathguard, nothing special denotes it, save the blanket, an unnecessary foible for one of the dead. It bears the stamp of a Lordaeronic army standard issue blanket, with in faded lettering 'Lt K.U. Heldenhammer.

He spends much time at repose in Brill, mainly the tavern. Not drinking, except when off duty, and only at certain times. He lodges in one of the downstairs rooms, comforted by the sounds of the town..occasionally however he will awaken, snatching his rifle, as if to dash outside, before sighing and returning to his rest.

The third..there is a slight hill outside the gates of Lordaeron, covered in grass and the occasional gorse bush, some say it was a burial mound where the bones of Lordaeron's civilians lie, those not risen by the Scourge. Every so often, a lone army tent is pitched there, with a Deathguard inside it. He does not sleep. It almost looks from afar if he is talking to himself quietly, but if any approach he observes the one approaching in silence, until they leave, or he is given an order. On occasion, left behind, and replaced regularly are a bouquet of flowers, and a hand carved child's toy...

I will try to keep this short as I don't know when my connection will get cut. (after all I am writhing this on my phone...)

While Teo mainly can be seen in Brill, the places he would concider as home do not lay in that town. Worth mentioning is 2 places:

Private chamber - Undercity: Teorius is a high ranked member in the R.A.S and therefor got a small chamber in the tunnels under the Apothecarium. The room is not much to see and except for a coffin and a small desk there is only one thing worth notice: the book collection, that holds rare and even classified books, registers and documents.

Secret lab - Dalaran: In a meeting hall of old sewer tunnels deep bellow the city. Hidden in an area near the "bottom" that even local sewer thugs avoid, Teorius gathered up loads of equipment to be able to continue normal work status even under his visits to the mage city. Why it is secret? People tend to panic when you tell them you got a lab with bioweapons under a mayor city.

If you want to know more for some reason I should be back soon.

-Teo
